FAQs for Pearlie White Toothpastes

A: The international guideline on fluoride concentration in toothpastes recommends that adult toothpastes contain between 1000 and 1500 parts per million (ppm) of fluoride, while children's toothpastes should contain no more than 1000 ppm. These guidelines are based on the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the American Dental Association (ADA).

All Pearlie White toothpastes satisfy this guideline. Pearlie White toothpaste formulation also takes into consideration the concentration of fluoride in our local water supplies, the average Singaporean’s daily fluoride intake and the optimal fluoride concentration required of a toothpaste used by the average Singaporean.

In general, the amount of fluoride an adult needs a day is around 2 to 3 milligrams. And if you brush your teeth twice a day with any of our Pearlie White fluoridated toothpastes (if you use like a regular amount of toothpaste ie. smeared across toothbrush head), you should be getting at least 2 milligrams. Then adding whatever fluoride you are getting from your other drink and food sources in the day = it should be sufficient since the tap water in Singapore is already fluoridated.

In comparison, there are some countries in the world where their tap water is not fluoridated. Hence, a toothpaste with higher fluoride content may be more suitable for people living in these countries.

A: Relative Dentin Abrasivity (RDA) is a measure of the abrasive potential of a toothpaste or other oral care products. RDA values range from 0 to 250, or even higher, with higher values indicating more abrasive potential. For adults, toothpastes with medium RDA value (70 to 100) are considered safe for everyday use.

Toothpastes with a high RDA value (100 and higher) may cause excessive wear on tooth enamel and should be used with caution or under the guidance of a dental professional. For kids up to age of 12, it is recommended to use a toothpaste with low RDA value (20 to 30).Our Pearlie White range of toothpastes range from 70 to 100. Our Pearlie White Kids' Toothpaste range from 20 to 30. And our Pearlie White Natural Range of toothpastes range from 20 to 30.

Therefore, it is important to choose a toothpaste with an appropriate RDA value based on individual age, oral health conditions, needs and preferences. Some people may require a more abrasive toothpaste to effectively remove stains and plaque, while others may benefit from a less abrasive toothpaste to protect their tooth enamel.

It is always wise to consult with a dental professional to determine which type of Pearlie White toothpaste is best for you.
